AS i walked past a group of scene kids today, it got me thinking.
If we have these indie/emo/scene trends going around in America, what kind of trends are there on the other side of the world?
And not underdeveloped countries like parts of Cambodia and Vietnam.
Mainstream Japanese, Chinese, and Korean trends and such.

Japanese people are having fun with crazy anime porn and pranks on tv. Korea is obssessed with love/drama and Starcraft. China I have no idea.

I'm Korean by the way and Korea is really similar to USA except for the emo kids.

I won't.

Developed areas of the Philippines have people who are a lot like Americans, including the indie/emo kids (mostly emo, though).

Haven't been there in awhile, so I can't really go into detail much further. Their malls are much nicer/larger than the ones in America, and serve as common hangout spots for kids, much like over here (or at least where I live).

I always thought that was just stereotypical and cliche.

That's a dumb question, you know everyone in here would buy it too. I know I would!

I think it is, but having never been, that's all I've seen from the media.

Korea:
The trend in Korea is divided by age groups.

Up to senior year of high school:
There really isn't a 'trend.' Most kids here are just students studying under enforced school rules that disallows them to follow a 'trend.' In Korea, students can be shaved, punished physically, and etc. on campus from the faculty.

Senior + College kids and up:
The trend starts here. Koreans of this age, if following a trend, will follow famous artists and celebrities. The hairstyles of Korea, distinct from Japan, can be researched and looked up in various hairstylist websites such as Bombhead (google this).
The clothing trend however, is best organized into types of kids. There are those who are indifferent, and those who are stylish. Stylish kids will go after prep-ish clothing as worn by famous artists (Se7en) and celebrities.

One of my friends is in Korea for the summer for cram school. When she lived there before she would go to school for the first half of the day, after that go to cram school, then go to tutor and go to bed at about 11, wake up at 6 to go to school again.

In the Philippines, I think emo has been popular there lately.

I noticed that when I came there.
I was expecting everyone to be wannabe gangstas

Ok here's what I can gather from my asian friend.

The trends are spikey hair, maybe with some brown dye in it, and dance-dance revolution games at arcades. Oh, and anime!

Oh, that was around 2002 up to early 2006. Then the emo trend got popular around mid 2006. I left around early 2006, so I remembered.

If you aren't aware already, the so called 'scene' culture was originally derived from Japan's Harajuku scene. The hairstyles were inspired/stolen years ago from Japanese culture. It's even obvious with all the Hello Kitty merchandise western scenesters wear.. how could that have originated in America when it's purely asian?
The only difference really is that japan fashion took it much further and didn't associate the style with crap music. *no offence this isn't an intended insult*
