Well, not really a rant, just a point noted.

Anybody else sick of the basic album/song/band naming scheme which is essentially:

1. Black
2. *any noun*

I think it's really overdone and just screams 'I can't think of anything good.' Especially since in the past two days we've had news of bands naming their albums in that exact same manner. They just throw the black in there to make it seem 'dark' or something.

I'm just saying.

and inb4 racist lolololol.

I find the whole "put two words together that don't make any sense" cliche worse

Limp Bizkit
Def Tone (though I love them)
Slip knot
God Smack
Killswitch Engage

EDIT: Goddammit I know what a slip knot is, stop quoting me!

You think that's worse than bands that WRITE THEIR NAME IN CAPITALS?

Or bandsthatcramtheirnameintooneword?

I couldn't agree more, it is just very generic and dull. ACDC's new album is apparently being called 'Black Ice' (or that might be a working title), and I've always considered them to be a rather uncreative band. It has just become a meaningless 'insert another word with black to sound cool and rock 'n' roll'. I'm bored of it.

1. Fixed
2. A Slipknot is a type of knot, KsE 'Engaged the Killswitch on their old bands to start a new one, so really, they do make sense.

"Our bass player Mike thought of the name - he heard the word and started playing around with it. His band at the time was coming to an end, as was mine and Adam's, and we wanted to start something new so we shut everything else down by activating the killswitch"

-Joel Stroezel on the band name (from Total Guitar magazine)

I find it stupid how so many band names today have sound negative.

You can name yourself after anything. I bet you're just complaining cos you don't like the band.

My mother laughed when she heard the name "Led Zeppelin".
Who names themselves after a heavy metal aircraft?
Who names themselves after a symbol seen on a sewing machine?
Who names themselves after a bunch of rotating rocks?
Who names themselves after a day spent completely stoned?
Who names themselves after one of Paul McCartney's pseudonyms?
Who names themselves after something that bees live in?
Who names themselves after their lead singer or guitarist? That's a ****ing stupid idea.

Yeah, creativity is dead, when a band like SikTh has an album titled "The Trees are Dead and Dried Out Wait For Something Wild" or Canvas Solaris' "Cortical Tectonics". You're just looking in the wrong place for originality. Popular metal just caters to the lowest common denominator now, hence the unoriginality.

EDIT: that being said, if ****ty "Hardcore" bands don't stop using "Beneath" in their names, i will be forced beat them to death with a 2 way dildo. (save for Beneath the Massacre of course, they did it first.)

I've never actually listened to them...Just saying that there's a lot of odd-named bands out there.

I tried to get a band going once. It was called "We Fear Thunder"

Yeh I'm just completely bored of the whole verb noun thing. Or 2 random words... Whatever it is.

Green Day
Cold Play

Etc....

But the whole number thing was worn out years ago. Sum 41 and Blink 182 etc...
And sticking 'The' infront of some wierd word is getting very worn out.

The Automatic, The Raconteurs, The Gillemots

And heres one to laugh about....

The Pidgeon Detectives ! <------------ Good Job on using two random words and The!

How uncreative...

Plus theres bands who just steal a name and change it.
Hey Thin Lizzy was a great name!
Wasnt it Good Charlotte?

And that goes towards the people from 'Cold Megan' Ha...

I think a band name is very hard to come up with though, but spending alot of time on it and coming up with something that actually means something, and isn't just taken from other artists is better in the end... Be Creative with Your Names

Not that I've come up with one....

^ those people are all trying to come up with names that no-one else would have. I think the best strategy is to go for something completely random that no-one else could think of.

Just ask the Archers of Loaf.

It's Guillemots and there's no 'The'.
