so i have a slight dilemma on my hands right now. i just inherited $8000 from my Granddad who passed away in march. i have 3 options of how to spend the money but i can't decide on which one to do

they are

1)
Invest the money (all of it) for the graduate degree i will be taking in a few years, after i finish my undergrad.

2)
Invest $5000 for my education and keep the other $3000 for spending money over the next few years and to buy a Rickenbacker 4003

3)
my least favorite option, but it was suggested to me. bet it all on a game of Roulette (#8). if i win that's 288,000 and i'm set for a very very long time

I'd say some version of choice 2.

at number 3, that's just stupid.

I'd say number 1 - if he meant a lot to you do him proud and invest in your future.

The choice is yours between the first two options. However, betting it all would be nothing short of absolutely silly.

Invest $6000
Set a limit on monthly spending too.

I'd say number 2, but i see you already have a ph.d in funk so what's the point?

Yeah go with the 2nd option. And why the hell are people suggesting that third 1?! lmao.

I'd go with 1(or i might spend a much smaller amount than $3k on stuff).
But I AM boring.
#15
i'd go with number 2, but i would put a little bit more into education.

it's your money though, do what YOU want to do with it.
#16
Sorry to hear about your grandfather
Id go for option 2 personally

Spend some and save the rest for later.

the 5/3 split was just off the top of my head. it'd probably be more like 6/2. and the 2 would be spending money for the next year. plus combined with my job to get a ric

2. You'll never want to sell a Ric anyway, and especially not given the circumstances. The rest of the money will come in handy when you start renting a house or flat.

buy a motorcycle, pick up a hot rich chick, talk her into marring you, kill her parents, kill her, take the money and head for Mexico.
#23
Bet it all on black in roulette then you can save more than half and spend $3,000.

Option 1, you can get all the guitars you want when you have education, a job, and lots of gay sex.

Hit this once or twice, and you'll be twice as nice.

definitely not 3, you'd regret it so much.
I say 2, but save even more. An education costs money, and you don't need fun to enjoy yourself...

I'd put about 6,000 toward the education and maybe invest about 2,000 and see how much you can make out of it.

Smart investing though, not idiotic roulette games.

But definitely a form of number one.
#32
Did you ever see that indian casino episode of south park when they placed a bet and got all the money they needed to get their town back, but then bet again and lost it all?

Yeah thats gonna happen if you do choice 3.
Just go do #2
That way you invest in your future and have some money to have fun while you're still young.

keep 6 grand for education, take two grand and invest in apple/att (because once the new iphone comes out, theyre probably gonna go up) and in google (cuz i cant think of how theyll ever go down)

but i dont know **** about stocks. so dont listen to me.

I wouldn't invest in the stock market at all at the moment...
#34
Version 2. That's pretty much what I did when I inherited £5000. Although I bought a car and a new computer. I'm saving £3000 for university, so still got £700 spending money

I say pick up your education on the streets
You can get a lot of hookers with $8k....

But seriously, I'd got for option 2 but invest some of it... My Am. Gov./Econ. teacher claims that he invested $10k in this group that makes wise investments in the stock market for you and whatever profit you make they keep investing... apparently he's worth a good mil. now. I dunno if these guys are still around but thats the way to go.

I have a similar situation next year, except I'm getting a hundred grand :P Not too sure what to do with it..
