For the past 2 years ive owned a Marshall JCM900 4102 (100 watt combo), and i think ive only turned it up really loud a few times. I dont think i need all this power, especially if im not using it, and tbh i usually end up using my microcube for general bedroom playing.

I'm thinking of selling it and getting a smaller amp, but still tube. I play Dream Theater, Muse, Vai and that.

Any suggestions?

Just get an attenuator if you like the tone of the JCM 900. I think it has a half power switch too.
So activate half power and then attenuate, and then you dont have to injure your poor ears whenever you want good tube tone.

I'm not looking a head and cab really, nor do i want to save up for the combo as i dont have the money.

you might aswell stick with your microcube then if you don't wanna spend that much your not going to get anything significantly better than you microcube. for say under £300

Well im thinking £200 for a 2nd hand amp. Wattage.... 25w maybe? My current 50 (can be switched to 100) is HUGE overkill.

Ive also been thinking of selling it all together and getting an acoustic

Just wait until the orange tiny terror combo comes out.

Man, if you like that amp then I wouldn't sell it. If it has a half-power switch, use it. Also you can pull out two power tubes to reduce output, I think. Next, try out an attenuator, such as the THD hotplate.

Sounds like you need $ more than an amp that you don't use much. Perhaps, put your amp up for sale and be patient - everyone will try to talk ya down. Or go eBay route for quicker cash.

I think the acoustic route is cool. That way you have both options (elect & Accoustic.) I play my accoustic guitar more than my electric, as it is so simple and pleasing. Also song writting and practice is cool on an accoustic - good idea!
