play them both, see what shape is best playable and sounds best for YOU.. its gonna be your guitar so you'll have to make the choice yourself.

+1 i have both an sg and a les paul and in my opinion les pauls sound better but sg's are easier to play. also les pauls are a little heavier. so take that into consideration

If you already own an epi of one then maybe buy the gibson other? Meh ^ Your choice man.

yea, its really just preference. I like the les paul, but play both of them and see what you like best, because either will be a fine guitar.
consider this before you decide:
A LP can be pretty heavy, especially when your playing for a long time, an SG solves the problem of weight, just dont let go of the neck.
