What are some good songs that have a female singing, or what would be some songs that are sung by a dude but you guys would think would sound good witha girl singing...my band just auditioned a new vocalist (a Female) and i was wondering what the pit would be good ideas for songs to cover, before we get to writing.

Any ideas?

In This Moment has a female vocalist, and she screams too, which is pretty cool for a chick.

Some Paramore, maybe?

Just not Misery Business. That song is terrible. Her voice is so annoying in it.

Oh, and maybe some Alanis Morsette?

The Donna's - Who invited you, Fall behind me, Take it off(if she doesn't mind sounding dirty)

Joan Jett - Crimson and Clover, Do you wanna touch me, I hate myself for loving you, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap(AC/DC cover).

Something by Straylight Run.

Geddy Lee of Rush fame has a very feminine-sounding vocal range and style. I feel the same about Tony Kakko of Sonata Arctica.

I always thought that "A Question of Heaven" by Iced Earth would sound good with a female singer. The same could be said for the better part of the band Kansas's body of work.

As for bands with actual female singers, Lacuna Coil and Heart would be the easiest and most convenient to cover (that I know of). Some Blue Man Group songs (specifically from the album The Complex) feature female singers.

EDIT: If I were you, I'd be cautious of songs by bands like Nightwish and Epica. Though they are great for showcasing a female singer, they can be difficult to cover well because of the orchestral elements, unless you have a keyboardist with a really good sequencer.

I didn't really list many specific songs, so...

Sonata Arctica - Full Moon, My Land, False News Travels Fast
Rush - Time Stand Still, Far Cry, Limelight, Earthshine
Iced Earth - A Question of Heaven
Kansas - Carry On Wayward Son, Opus Insert, Portrait (He Knew)
Blue Man Group - Up to the Roof, I Feel Love, What is Rock

+ several million for Coheed.

'The Agonist' has a female vocalist. As does 'Flyleaf'

Maybe you'd get more help if you told us what kind of music you like?

I think Riot! is a pretty solid record all around. You should try Let The Flames Begin or Fences.

What kind of voice does she have? Not all girls have similar voices, by any means. Is her voice poppy, like Hayley or Avril? Rock-y, like Joan Jett? More soft and soulful, like Norah Jones?

You should describe what her voice sounds like, and what kind of music you play, rather than just asking for stuff with a female singer. Some girl who sounds like Avril Lavigne definitely couldn't cover an Aretha Frankiln song.
