they have them nearly half off at a local music store thats going out of business near me

but only the 81's
would it sound bad if i put two 81's into a johnson catalyst ?
#2
not so much bad but you will be very limited on the tonal range you could get out of your guitar

and also on divebombs they sputter out within seconds

is it just the stock pickups ?

I believe Kirk Hammett uses 2 81's in his signature ESP and they sound good.

And paying half the price? That would please my Jackson Warrior so much...

EMG 81 is the best pickup in the world if you play metal, sustain, dive bombs, INSANE pinch harmonics, the gain is godly. i`ll never go back to passive pickups again.

i`d love to hear what a 81 sounds like in the neck.

it would limit what you can do. i wouldn't do it if i had the chance.

Thats probably some of the best advice I've ever received on here.

i haven't tried the 81 in the neck, and dunno if i'd recommend it tbh.

if you play enough high gain stuff, an 81 would be fine. but if you want some more versatile options, look away, especially if you don't wanna spend $4 to mod it to run on 18v.

Worst pickup, the only good active is the EMG 60, all the others are complete crap, get used to muddy sound.

yes, and we should all take your advice 100% literally.

it might be possible that they are not muddy, and people like them.

Actives sound awesome with the right equipment. And the only really bad actives I've played would be the Dimebucker. they were hideous
