Will using distortion on my amp with a multi effects pedal cause my amp to overload and break somehow?

No.

If you're using a tube amp you might be able to drive the tubes a little harder, but beyond that, no.

Of course it'll probably sound like ****.

Well if i set the amp to clean channel i cant hear it, unless i turn it all the way up then i can just barely hear it. sounds the same with distortion on or off.
