For what type of music and what amp?

+1 There are lots of good guitars with mahogany in that price range, but they depend on what sort of music you are playing.

mahogany is overrated.
its all about alder
or basswood.
even maple sounds better.

Damn many. In case you're fishing for recommendations on what to buy, please tell us the music you want to use it for and what amp you'll be using it with. If you have any preferences considering the body or neck shape, bridge type or the pickups, mention them.

And don't forget that mahogany isn't the only way to go.

It's not overrated, it is all about the sound you want.

Fanboys are funny.

They WERE for some time. Funny how the Ibanez nerds have been replaced with the Schecter fanboys.

theres nothing funny about great guitars

Sure, it's just funny how people recommend a guitar without knowing what music the ts is going to use it for. Schecters might be good, but anyway this behaviour makes me question the intelligence of some users.

and rightfully so.

as for the question of what the ts will use it for, it doesnt matter. if he wants metal, he could get the hellraiser, if he doesnt want it for metal, he could get the classic. seymour duncans ftw!

EDIT: and oh yeah, ESPs are badass.

There IS something funny about people who are convinced that they're the greatest guitars of all time and recommend them without knowing what the TS is looking for.

No guitar is that amazing. Unless it comes with a free Jessica Biel.

sorry schecter, you dont have dave.

He wants versatility.

That guitar = the antithesis of versatility.

^ I do indeed. Guitar makers really need to stop abusing abalone binding...

+1, this guitar is the god of rock.

I never understood why Ibanez discontinued it. I know the SZR series replaced the SZ series, but their still isn't a prestige model and the SZR720 is way too flashy.

but youre right, its not very versatile. active pickups screw you over like that.

The Yamaha AES620 comes with a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge and with a Yamaha humbucker in the neck position. Mind you, the Yamaha humbucker is still very good. The AES920 comes with two SD humbuckers, but costs far more than 1000$.
Unfortunately, both guitars are hard to find in the US. They are worth trying though, both are excellent guitars.
