if you think the amp is tube, vote for tube.
if you think he's using a SS or a modeler, vote solid state.
(duh )

(oh, and if you need to look at the comments or something else to figure out what kind of amp it is, don't bother voting !)

don't try to 'logic think' you out of this either ("if he posts a thread like this, it'll probably be a SS that emulates the tube sound well"), it can be either !

How about you actually upload a sound clip instead of a YouTube video? Might make this a little better of a test.

On that note, I don't have speakers at the moment.

I can't listen here at work. Should I vote based on what I think your agenda might be?

the tone is definitely good. but it seems like there's a tad bit of 'dryness' to it. so i'm gonna go with ss.

It's obviously a solid state, or else this would be a pointless thread. It's not going to be, "Nope, it's a tube! Tubes sound better!"

Yup. Still, it sounds good. Actually I'm not surprised, there are some SS/modelling amps which sound absolutely awesome (like Roland JC120 or Line6 Flextones)

Well, I think it's a SS amp because everyone's gonna say TUBE! because it's a decent tone, and then you'll be like NUH UH IT'S SS and we'll feel like idiots.

It's a solid state.

The crunch is all in the pre-amp, you can hear it.

Great tone, but dynamicly it was pretty much a straight line. I'll go with SS.

It's always hard to tell with youtube vids that didn't use the best sound gear in the world.

The distortion sounds like a good TS style pedal (but maybe not a real tube screamer) so I'm going to say it's either a good solid state (yes, there are good solid state amps) with or a clean tube amp with a pedal.

most likely an SS.

It has good tone, but it doesn't really have those tube dynamics.
It actually sounds alot like a flextone I played at a local store.

^You could be right about the flexitone. I could of sworn I saw a "Line 6" badge.

I didn't like his tone much at all. The beginning of the clip sounded a little messy.

I did not cheat either and am chosing the SS route but not because that is what I believe you are leading us to. The amp/tone, although good, did not quite have the picking dynamics one would normally associate with an all tube amp.
#26
i cheated and looked at the past comments, its a flextone plus, sounds really good to me though. Most people on here seem to say that tube is the only way to go but i think that ss sounds sweet and i bet its really versatile too.

great way to ruin the fun for everyone, you prick
#28
I'm thinking SS because it sounds kind of harsh, and the distortion seems pretty tight... I might just be overthinking, though. I don't really have first-hand experience with tube amps.

It wasn't all that much fun. Everyone knew it was solid state or else it wouldn't have been a question. "Look, this tube amp sounds like a tube amp!" doesn't make for much of a thread.

If you want to make some fun, somehow record some high-quality audio clips of a good solid state tone and a similarly EQ'd tube tone, post them, and then get people to vote.

Yeah, I figured I was on the money in post #4.

yeah, i like the other idea of someone on hear doing a killer modeling clip and then a 'dry' tube clip to compare with head to head vs. a youtube clip that has all the information in it already...not that i looked.

Yeah, I think that would be an awesome idea actually. If I had the equipment and the talent, I'd do it.

WHY DO YOU MAKE SUCH THREADS WHEN YOU KNOW THEY WILL BE CLOSED

That aside, I chose not to listen, because I am a proud person.
The Laney Thread are big and clever. No exceptions.
#40
I voted tube.
Now I feel stupid.

Some of it sounded SS, but the lead playing made me think tube as I have never really been able to get a good distorted lead tone via a modeler, BUT I can get a nice clean-ish lead tone (think low-gain orange, or that clip) with modelers, so I really should have used my brain and experience a bit more.
