Few questions about where you currently stand in playing music and what you expect!!?

Few easy questions I have for you, I think it will be fun to hear many answers! This is like a little research, and I think it would be interesting to find out where people visiting site currently stand in playing music and what do they expect from doing it:

1: How old are you? How long have you been playing?
2: Do you do music as a hobbie or you are professional musician and live from music, if you are professional tell us what exactly you do? (playing in band, recording etc...).
3: What are your goals with playing guitar, are you hardly trying to do something in music business or you are happy only to play for yourself and friends and do some nice gigs sometimes. So do you take it as business or only fun and what is your final goal with it?

So please give many answers I am very interested to read about it. I think it may be interesting for you too...

Thanks

I'm 20. It's just a hobby. There are plenty of things I'm better at that I can make a lot more money from.

I'm 16, i'm in a band "guitar, lyrics", I wouldnt mind making it big, I really like preforming live.... errmm did i cover everything?
#4
1: almost 17
2: hobby
3: i'm starting (started partially) a band with some friends, so thats my main priority music wise right now. I am writing a bunch of junk, and it's turning out real good. i hope to record a cd, and kinda become know, but not huge. i'd rather stay with local gigs in my state, the occasional county fair type thing, nothing insane.

I'm 15, I play in a band and we're doing pretty damn fine.
Wrote few songs, had success...(Our singer and our bass player are both 18 and our drummer is 16...just letting you know).
Sure...it would be nice to live from music.
Cause that's the only thing I love doing besides making out with my girlfriend but...
I'm from Slovenia...you can't have lots of success here.
So yeah..let's hope for the best

2. I'm not in a band at the moment, but I'd like to think of music as more than a hobby.

3. My ultimate goal is to make it big and play for people, sell albums, etc. I don't really care about the money, I just want to be known and to have people love what I do. I think it's the best feeling when you are on stage, and to play in front of thousands would be the best feeling I could experience. I just love the idea of getting to do what you love for a living.

14, play music as a hobby, I'm not in a band but am writing many compositions and am hoping to find another musician with whom I can combine ideas and record an Ayreon-type album.
#12
1. 12.

2. I'm in a band. (lead guitar, music writing, acoustic guitarist) We're not exactly big, but have played a couple of places locally (pubs, school fares etc.) and practice regularly.

3. I hope to become a fairly well known guitarist, and making it big would be great, as I love performing live and going completely mad. But to be honest I don't really care that much. There are many other things I could do for a living.

I'm 18.

I play in a band and record sometimes, but never with any "serious intent" of getting some shit out there. More for just my own benefit.

I want to get good enough to be satisfied with myself and to have fun with it. I don't expect to make a penny from any sort of musical endeavors.

2. I do it because it's fun, and I love it!
3. I will ultimately try my best to write as best songs as me and my bandmates can. I will try my hardest to "make it" so, if at the end of the day I don't, I can say that it was simply not my calling and not for me, that I did my best and therefore CANNOT have ANY regrets

1. I'm 20
2. Music is a hobby, which has eaten all my other hobbies....
3. My goal is simply to be the best player i can be. I would love to get some concrete music written at some point but right now its just a bunch of riffs that i play around with occasionally. And obviously having fun with it is what its all about.

So do you take it as business or only fun and what is your final goal with it?I'm just playing for fun. I see myself starting a band in the future, but I'm not going to put all my efforts to a band, I see myself getting a good job and working on that. However, if given the chance to be in band professionally i'd have to take it.

You should also ask how long everyone's been playing for, as some people could start when they're five and play until they're like twenty, but some twenty years olds could have only started playing a year ago.

1.17 (3 years of playing)

2. Currently I see guitar as being more of a hobby than anything.

3. I would love to be able to make it big in the music business but I just doesn't seem worth the risk of having no job, no money, and no place to stay, just for a 1 in 10000 chance of actually making money in the music industry. I just want to keep getting better and enjoying my playing. When I'm older and have a steady job with good pay I'll hopefully find some other people to jam with and maybe gig with.

3. just have fun with it. make some songs and play a few gigs. and go to new orleans and play on the street just to see if i'll get money

Semi Professional. I play in a band and we play regular gigs, but have not been signed yet.

3: What are your goals with playing guitar, are you hardly trying to do something in music business or you are happy only to play for yourself and friends and do some nice gigs sometimes. So do you take it as business or only fun and what is your final goal with it?

I'd love to become a composer for a T.V series like Lost or something, or maybe hit it big with the band.

It's just a hobby. I do plan on playing in places like hotels though. I have an audition this week at this one hotel that's $1,500 a night, so I think I can get good money there.

Go to college, become a professional classical guitarist kind of like John Williams, William Kanengiser, Manuel Barrueco, Adam Holzman or someone like that.

1: How old are you? How long have you been playing?

I'm 20 years old so I must've been playing 4-5 years by now but I'm not sure on that one.

2: Do you do music as a hobbie or you are professional musician and live from music, if you are professional tell us what exactly you do? (playing in band, recording etc...).

I just play to have fun, it's something to do and it's a good confidence booster and it's rewarding. I don't have any dreams about being a professional musiscian at all, saying that though I would like to be in a band and play a coupla good gigs, that'd be sweet.

3: What are your goals with playing guitar, are you hardly trying to do something in music business or you are happy only to play for yourself and friends and do some nice gigs sometimes. So do you take it as business or only fun and what is your final goal with it?

I don't have a final goal with playing guitar, I don't have a bar set for how good I want to be or whatever and I try not to compare myself to other players. I'll keep playing guitar so long as it's still fun.

18 Years Old (I've been playng guitar for 5 years and drums for 6)
I'm in 2 bands, one is pretty serious, we've had airtime on local radio stations, they didn't play any of our songs, they just bigged us up a lot. My other band has just gotten started, so that's still at square 1.
I'd love to become a well known an respected musician, I don't care for money, never have, I just crave the live experience, nothing beats that rush.

1. I'm 15 and been playing for 6 years.

2. It's pretty much a hobby, but I am in a band.

3. It would be amazing if our band could get anywhere, even just well known outside of the area. But I doubt that will happen, because I live in a small town and the other people in the band aren't as serious about music as I am.

2. Trumpet: 2.5 years, Guitar: 5 months

3. Guitar: Just a hobby I do to relax although I would like to be in a band...maybe.

Trumpet: I'm serious about trumpet as a career. I would like to play in a jazz/blues band in clubs as opposed to playing in a symphony or orchestra because i prefer jazz/blues to classical. ( Not to say I don't enjoy some Bach ) Oh, and I would love to play in a Zappa esque band. (Although geniuses like that only come around every millennium or so )
