I've had an Ibanez RG 170DX for a few weeks now and my only complaint is that I would like a Floyd Rose on it. So, I sold my old MG10(for 60 bucks!) and I can buy a Floyd Rose off of eBay.

My question is, is it worth upgrading, with pickups down the road, or should I just wait a few months, or even years, before I can get a Jackson?

Edit: Here are the ones I'm looking at.

I get very tense around apples...Well, I get very tense generally. I think I've fallen into the trap of blaming fruit.

Either I fix up the turd or I play it for a few years until I can buy a guitar without worrying about tuition.

So what if I buy EMG's for it?

that would be a better investment, but I think you should save your money and get a better guitar or amp.

Actually, I just got the amp, so that's a no.

I wouldn't recommend it, both those EMG-HZ pickups and tremolo systems don't look too great.

Yeah, another high output passive pickup would be better than EMG-HZs.

And it's not worth the time, money and effort putting a Floyd on it.

And you're obviously here because you fancy Phill.
Phill is a very attractive guy...

Unless otherwise stated, assume everything I say is in my opinion.

So if I were to get new pickups, would Seymour Ducan SH6 or Sh11 be any good? I play thrash metal and plan to move on to speed or death metal later on.

I'm also considering this one.

I should probably add that I'm in college.

New pickups aren't going to make that large of a difference with the amp you have now.

And I agree, putting a tremolo on that RG would be a waste of money. First off, a trem even worth bothering with is going to cost about $150 and second you'd need to do some extensive routing into the guitar to make room for it anyway.
