im looking to get a more of a thick sound out of the sg, more like a les paul.

i play more metal/punkish stuff.

I don't know much about Dimarzio but I think those are best for like crazy virtuoso shredding like Steve Vai and Dragonforce, I would probably either get EMGs or SDs

Whenever I clean my guitars, my family wonders why it smells so good; I say that I exude a fresh citrus scent from hidden orifices.

If you want a thicker, beefier sound and want to get more les paul-type beefiness then I think a pair of Breeds will do the job. The Custom 5 is a great bridge pickup but it does a better job of adding a bit of extra top-end bite to a warm guitar, you want something that does the opposite, the Breed in the neck is just generally a great pickup. I wouldn't go for the Pearly gates or indeed anything with an Alnico 2 magnet if you want clarity under distortion.

I have a Duncan SH6 Distortion in my LTD EC100QM and my friend has a Custom 5. I like the SH6 alot better it works great for drop tunings too. Check the capacitor on your tone pot a .047 cuts out highs better than a .022 which alot of guitars have. I also vote for a JAZZ model in the neck. That's what I used and people always say my LTD sounds awesome. Hope this helps you out.
