Explorer.
Gibson V shape = not appealing to me.
The Jackson V shapes however is sex with 6 strings.
Jackson King V KVX10
Line 6 Spider III 75 W.
Peavey 5150/6505 Combo to be owned at the end of 2010.

If I had a V, I'd totally paint it all psychedelic like.

So yeah, Flying V

Plus, too many homosexual metalcore bands use explorers, so no way man.

Is there such a thing as a heavy riff with out chugging on the e string?

I would have to recommend the Explorer. I had to make this same decision when I got my Explorer. It sounds more full bodied, and it's a hell of a lot easier to play. That's just my 2 cents.

i don't understand how anyone can prefer those pointy atrocities over the curvy, beautiful, original Gibson Flying V
the mind boggles

I'd have to say the explorer just because I prefer the shape a little more than the V, but personally I would never buy either of them. I'm more of a strat body kinda guy.

ahaha.
i love coheed. and explorers, but for more reasons than that. v's just seem sort of ugly especially where the neck connects to the body.

I'd get a duplicate of this one:

Black with white trim. Colors like red & white are good too. Red with white trim would be nice actually. Get one from the Gibson custom shop or something lol. Pick your own colors.

I dislike the pickguards btw. My guitars go commando as far as those are concerned.

I have the classic white explorer with the ebony neck and i love it. The only v i'll get is rhoads sig, but I don't want that anytime soon. I say the natural and burst are sexy, i'm not a metal person so I think the least metal ones are natural and burst. I got white because I like white and the ebony neck is pure sex. I wish the white was more "white" though. They used to have a trans black pro that was pretty cool. They went up in price like 250 dollars in the last 3 months and I think they are expensive.

Explorer. If it was between a Gibson Exlporer and a Jackson Rhoads V, I'm not sure, but I don't like the Gibson V nearly as much as either of them. The only one I've seen that I thought was really win was Randy Rhoads' Polka Dot V, and that had a different headstock and essentially a strat neck on it.

Also, James Hetfield's "eet fuk" Explorer is the single most metal guitar ever, except for possibly Alexi Lahio's white ESP with the Scythe inlays.

Natural Explorer for me.
