I am currently looking into purchasing this small stack to take with me to University next year because I require a tube amp ASAP AND it is fairly inexpensive for amazing quality. My only question is, because this amp only has a gain, volume and tone knobs, would one advise me to also get an eq pedal? I already have enough distortion pedals (Big Muff and TS-808 on there way). Is an eq pedal required? And if so, which one? Because I have no used many EQ's and have NO IDEA which would be of best quality. Thanks.

I would say getting one could control and get you the tone you want easier. I don't have any experience with them though.

My bad. The Little Giant has 4 controls:

Bass
Mid
Treble
Volume

Would an EQ still be required?

Better tubes I'll definitely look into. On the owners manual it displays all the tubes and then it says:

Rectifier = Solid State

Any tech geeks wanna explain to me what this is?

My Valve Jr responds well to EQ. I'd go for it.

Edit: Go for it ..meaning get the EQ

So now it's become a debate over the Epiphone Valve Jr. and the Blackheart?:P

I play mostly rock/alternative. Isn't the Valve Jr. more for blues and lighter stuff?

I believe they use the same board. I get some great medal tones out of it with my POD. So either will be fine. I'm just saying they should both like EQ's.

HOLD ON! I've just been reading a lot of reviews, and people are saying it's hard to keep the Blackheart clean because there's no master volume or gain control. Can the Valve Jr. be kept clean at loud volumes?

EDIT: Thanks for the rectifier info

There's the Egnater Rebel (mini half-stack) coming out late July / early August. With the variable wattage (1 to 20 watts), it should cover what you need.

It's going to be 600 USD (approx. 600 CAD ) for the head only I heard. There's a matching 1x12 but I don't know the price.
