Ok, last question. In death metal, are the fast tremolo picking riffs usually palm muted or not? When I try to cover the songs it sounds too muffled and not distorted and chunky enough if I palm mute it. Is it just my tone? Or are they not supposed to be palm muted?

If the song sounds denser when the tremolo picking parts happen, it's palm muted.

If the picking sounds kind of...open and jangly it's not palm muted.

Yeah, and the dense palm mute is good for death metal.
