I'm listening to Suffer Little Children by the Smiths, which is inspired by the Moors Murders.

I'm just wondering, are there any songs UGers can think of which are about real events/periods of history?

I can also think of:

Red Sector A by Rush
Tora Tora Tora- Depeche Mode
Suffer Well by Depeche Mode
#3
Run To The Hills by Maiden is bout The Natives gettin kicked off their land I'm pretty sure

Wont Get Fooled Again is about door to door salesman trying to trick people, and they came up to Pete's house one day and tried to sell him overpriced **** and voila!

And Smoke On The Water was about When they were lookin across a lake and saw a what looked like fire on a lake and again voila!

The whole "Amaseffer - Slaves For Life" album. Well it's based on the old testament, so it can be argued if it's by a true event. But it's based on a true book for sure .
Dream Theater - Sacrificed Sons was inspired by 9/11.

Yes.
The "The Trooper" is inspired by some war against Russians if I'm not mistaken.
And Two Minutes To Midnight is inspired by the Cuban Missiles Crisis.

Sunday Bloody Sunday if I remember rightly is about the Bloody Sunday Massacres. During the 'Troubles' when there was a lot of in-fighting the British often took violent action against the Irish groups.

During one particular outburst British forces stormed a Gaelic football match and killed over 30 people.
