Srsly, wtf is it with all these threads? Stfu and stop grouping yourselves :/

Anyway, to stop this being spam, why do so many people feel this need to stereotype each other. Whatever happened to wanting to just be yourself rather than fitting in with a group of people to look "cool". Discuss

some people, being insecure about themselves and having low self-esteem create a stereotype where they can all fit in and not be 'weird' or any of the other crap I get called for being myself.

No offence to anyone.

Nobody wants to be truly independent. In nature, when we were primates, being independent meant certain death.

Everyone has a need to fit in.

I go on these rants all of the time, especially with my sister (I am an extremely arrogant and independent individual who couldn't care less about anyone else, and my sister will do anything to fit into a crowd). It is a futile discussion.

Edited.

Fitting a certain stereotype gives those that indulge in it both a sense of belonging and elitism.

I have no problem with a group of friends dressing kind of similar, that might just be their look, ya know? I stick with jeans, t-shirts, and the occasional nice polo. If it's what you like, go to a Metallica concert wearing a Maiden t-shirt and a Hannah Montana hat.

Fixed.

And, I agree that you shouldn't follow a trend to fit in. BUT, some people dress a specific way because they like the clothes that they wear, not nessecarially to fit in.

I call myself "metal" because it's what I listen to, not because I associate myself with the metal community. I really don't consider myself part of the metal community because I'm not an elitist, intolerant, hairy, God-hating oaf, which is what the entire metal community here consists of.

But at the same time, so many people try to be independent they end up being stereotyped.

I'll wear whatever tickles my fancy, I wont wear clothes based on the music I listen to.

^^Well, of course, there's no such thing as an original idea anymore.

Thus, it's easier to wear what you like, instead of wearing what you think will help you fit in, or wearing something specifically not to fit in.

I get this sh*t all the time, people don't understand that I can play guitar and listen to non-mainstream music and be athletic. It's like I should shouldn't do it because it doesn't fit my stereotype, which is pretty sad.
