I just got Vargstenen last week (I think?) I've only listened to it once plus some songs that came up on random and I'm pretty impressed so far. I haven't really analyzed it closely, but it flows perfectly, nothing has ever felt out of place, and I have been pretty impressed a few times.

I would call them Black/Folk metal though, at least from what I've heard they are pretty equally influenced by black and folk, imo.

If there has not been a Manegarm thread until now, then shame on this forum! Easily one of the heaviest, most consistent, and generally awesome folk metal bands in existence. Vredins Tid is my personal favorite album of thiers, but I don't think I've heard any album from them that I disliked.

This is true, they have yet to disappoint. Every album so far has been pure quality.

And, I'd kill to see a live show with the afore mentioned line-up. Can you say, "Epic much"?

Fixed .

I don't know if Manegarm ever have or ever will come to my state, but TYR and Equilibrium came this year and were well recieved, so I can only hope for more quality folk bands in the future.

Europe...(sigh).

Paganfest came within easy traveling distance this year. But I couldn't make it.

Naturally.

I, too, hope that more folk metal comes 'round here. That, or have a sudden emergence in good (and original) American folk metal.

Same here... At least there's Finntroll later this year.

They play here in Hollywood on 9/11.

ANYWAY

On topic, Manegarm kick ass. I got Vreden's Tid and Vargstenen. Ur Sjalslig Dod was the first song of their's I heard and I have not been disappointed by anything else I've heard of them.

SO if Janne and Alexi did a gay porn, would I be the only one willing to buy it?

That's a dumb question, you know everyone in here would buy it too. I know I would!

Good stuff, the guitar tone seems different from most other folk bands. The cleans somewhat remind me of Vintersorg's.
If you see me in the pit, know that I'm only there because the metal forum is moving slowly.

I love them. My fave right now is Vredens Tid. The only stuff i dont like is their early demos. Too black for me, since i'm not a fan of black at all.

Thanks for the bump, reminded me that I MISSED THAT TOUR
Dödsfärd's a favorite of mine, but they're all great.

The female vocals ruin it. I got Vredens Tid based on the cover (which is insanely awesome), only to be disappointed by the vocals.

I think I've listened to too much of the genre at one time, because Manegarm... well they're good, but they sound like a lot of other bands that do the same thing. Their folk stuff is great, their black metal elements leave a bit to be desired. Maybe I've just listened to it in the wrong mood or something.

I'd have to say thats defenitely a good starting point. Uppvaknande, and then Ur Sjalslig Dod is the perfect start to an album.
