And the point is?

You asked which is better, not which is cheaper.
#5
Well then, what makes the boss worth the $90 difference?

get analog, it is cheaper, and is supposed to have better sounds. it's like the difference between tube and solid state.
#7
No, it isn't. Recommending an analog recorder in this price range is ridiculous. Unless you are willing to spend quite a chunk of money, the digital domain far exceeds the analog in quality, sound, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness.
#8
yea i am in the $300 or so price range.

You don't even sound like you know what you're talking about, or even that you have any experience with analogue.

Personally, I'd go with the Tascam. The boss is a better unit, but not by miles, and with the Tascam you can spend less money and get a gigabyte of memory. The 128Mb that comes with the Boss won't last long, although flash memory is cheap so you could always upgrade.

First I would want to know why you are planning on getting an MTR instead of an audio interface for a laptop or desktop computer.

MTRs work well but are limiting and generally cost more.

Analog at this price range is not worth it and you need to spend a lot more of you want great sound with that type of setup.

Personally I am a fan of Boss/Roland and would probably go with that even though it is a little more. XLR inputs are not on board the Boss but it comes with one adapter and you can easily get a second if needed.

+1 on upgrading the CF card. I am using a Fostex MTR with a 512MB card now and it really does go quick. I actually suggest a 2GB card.

I have the alesis 12channel mixer...and i HATE...HATE dealing with all the recording software...I just want a box i can record to.

I LIKE SIMPLICITY, yet good quality.

all of the software?
all you need is just one piece of software which can do a lot.

Sonar or Reaper can do so much more than an MTR

however if you are using condensers and plan on going with the MTR, you probably would be better off with the Tascam since it has phantom power on board (I though the boss did before..)

Yea...get this...Guitar Center offered me $75 for my mixer/interface today...so now I have to make a few decisions.
