What's your amp? You may want to split that 2000 bucks for pedals (and amp if needed).

This could be the absolute worst way to choose a guitar.

This, you have to play them yourself, you can't go on others' opinions

Why are you looking for a highend guitar, while having no idea about them?

Especially considering we're choosing brands and not even specific guitars and that we don't know anything about his tastes and styles.

I mean, I would drop $2,000 because someone told me it was good.

Well, you can pretty much 'rely' on all of those brands one way or another. You're answers are going to be spread out across what people like themselves, which isn't going to help you.

No one can randomly say which one is going to be the best fit for you. If you were asking, "What $200 starter guitar should I get?" then this would make sense since there would be fewer decent options. But for $2,000 there are A LOT of choices and no one can make that big of a decision for you. Whether you even need a $2,000 guitar is a whole other question.

Anyways, what amp do you have?
#18
why no Ibanez?

If I had that kind of money, I'd either buy a PGM301 or save a bit more and get a JEM

Your priorities are only slightly misaligned, in this case.

Put it this way:

Your crappy starter guitar through $2,000 amp = reasonable

$2,000 guitar through $30 amp = crap

~$1,000 guitar through ~$1,000 amp = priceless

No, it's not, see what these people paid for it:

http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar+Amp/product/Yamaha/JX35/10/1

Even if it was worth $200 it wouldn't do a $2,000 guitar justice. Not even close.

You could spend ~$600 on a guitar and ~$600 on an amp and be a very happy man. Much happier than having a $2,000 guitar and that amp. Plus, you'd have $800 left for porn and booze or whatnot.

i've owned and still do guitars that cost everywhere from $15-$3200 and i can honestly tell you, your best bet is to great a great guitar that will last you for probably about 7 or so years for $1000 (which is incredibly easy if you know how to look) and a killer amp which is extremely versatile called a bugera for $800.
I can't stand watching people waste their money on horrible gear.

I strongly encourage you to stop at version 1.0.

Go to the store, play some new guitars with some new amps, find a pair that you like within your price range and buy them. Version 2.0 isn't going to help you with that.

They're all reliable to a degree. Go to a guitar store like Guitar Center and try them all out. What one's person's preference is could be completely different that yours. The size of your hands affects how much you'll like a certain guitar's neck, and there's plenty of other things out there to consider as well. Either way, you'll kick yourself if you actually go through with this, and buy a 2k guitar to play through a $30 amp.
