buy a tuner and then tune it so it reads (from the high e string to the low e string): Eb Bb Gg Dd Aa Dd.
#7
its the same as drop d but then all the strings are lowered another 1/2 so the final result the 6h string is lowered 3/2 step strings 1-5 are lowered 1 step

OR you can: tune ALL your strings down 1/2 step, then tune to "drop d" (lowering the 6th string another step)

Except minus the high Eb and Bb. Welcome to the bass forum, buddy.

my bad. i was just browsing new posts and i didn't read anything about it being a bass, so sorry.

Well, technically you don't have to tune to that. Just as long as you tune to the lowest they go. Ex. If they play a low Db chord, then you would generally tune to drop Db. As long as you can stay in the same key, you would be fine.

Really though, as xCoverge said, Why are you joining a band without knowing this information?

I think if someone doesn't know a tuning that doesnt mean they cant be in a band.

I had a guitarist in a band of mine who didnt know ANYTHING about where notes we're, or tuning. She did totally suck tho.....

But yeah. Your tuner will want to say C# B C# F# (the same as Db Ab Db Gb)

well, damn I guess something is wrong with my 5 string. And something VERY wrong with my 6er

If you don't know what different tunings are, you not ready.
You'll probally need thicker strings for drop D flat (drop C sharp) as well.
Good luck
