do you really need a 100 watts? do you really need a stack?

I'd vote no.

A maximum 50 watt tube combo will be better for your ears and your back.
#13
Im guessing his budget is $400-600.

Dude, you don't need a half stack to be loud and sound good. It's a very common misconception on UG isn't it...

Peavey Valveking, Bugera.

Yes willing You know exactly what I meant.

The Crate is the best of the three. That being said, they're all rather poorly constructed, overprices, loaded with cheap components, and wayyy too heavy to deal with.

What styles do you play? What bands do you like? Do you gig? Jam?
#17
well, i play metal and rock...pretty much...clean sometimes...
i gig, jam, whatever...you know...

i just like the look of the stack...

those Tube amps, since they are 100 watts of tube power, wouldnt it be louder than just a 100 watt solid state amp?

thanks!

Uhh hell yeah. Like 2x as loud. That thing will blow your eardrums to pieces in a small space. 100 watts tube power is like 200-250 watts SS. I would recommend getting something smaller, but nicer.

duh dudadah!

Peavey Classic 30, with an overdive.. THATS ME THOUGH! (because it gets you great cleans for the budget, a little poppy and bright, but meh turn down the volume on your guitar and you get good smoothness)

Man, I've only been here since March and ....and.....and, well let's just say it is obvious you don't hang out here much (GG&A). I would do that for a couple of hours minimum and read as much as you can as it relates to what you are looking for including the Stickys.

Some good options have been brought up. I like the Valvekings, Classic 30s, B52, maybe used amps, and even a Valvetronix or something.

And what do you mean 'gig, jam, whatever...you know'?

No. We don't know. It makes a difference. Gigging means you are playing live on a stage with a drummer and band and in front of 20 people+. Are you doing that?

Perhaps one of these or one of these I would say.
Gear
Epiphone G-400
Orange Tiny Terror
Marshall 1936 2x12 Cabinet
Blackstar HT-Dual
MXR 10-Band EQ

yah...your right...i dont hang out here much...but when i have questions, i ask...that is what this is for...
i am a drummer....i could tell you anything....wait...let me say that agian..."ANYTHING" you want about drums...i play guitar also. right now, i have a 100 watt bass amp, and 2 practice amps for my regular guitar....
when my band plays gigs, i play drums, but i let my guitarists use my amps, but i use them alot also...me and my dad play gigs alot that it is just me and him on guitar...

ill define what i mean by gig, jam, whatever...
i play every wednesday and sunday. i play every other friday. and then when my band gets gigs. i jam out in my house almost everyday. then band practice every week at least. just last week on 4th of july, we played a gig on a "stage" in front of 100 people or so...so yes, gig, jam, anything...
