I love guitar solos and metal, but for the life of me can't find any new bands that consistently play good guitar solos. If you know any post them and maybe some links to songs or solos. And these are bands that pretty much have a guitar solo per song, not just one or two per album. Oh and I really don't give a **** as to what subgenre it is so yeah post whatever. Thanks.

mate there is so much solos in metal that im fucking sick of them. except the chaotic bestial whammy bar abuse

Wtf?

You can't? God damn man..

Dream Theater
Nevermore
Necrophagist
Into Eternity
Opeth
Scar Symmetry
Wintersun
Between the Buried and Me
Unmoored
Firewind

That's just a bunch off the top of my head. If you can't find bands that play solos, you aren't looking very hard.

Necrophagist
Morbid Angel
Behemoth
Nevermore
Solitude Aeturnus
Skeletonwitch
Deicide
Vital Remains
Symphony X
Evergrey
The Gates of Slumber
Into Eternity
Kalmah
Wintersun

All just random bands that came to my head and from all different genres. Enjoy.

Agreed. I don't care how good you are at guitar.

I can't find any bands nowadays that play bestial whammy bar abuse.

Wankcore morelike.

They accompany it with shitty songwriting, metalcore vocals, and showoffy arrangements.

There are plenty of bands that do it, on the war metal side of things like Proclamation, Teitanblood, to name a couple

well, Blasphemy, Bestial Warlust and Revenge are all essentials. Order From Chaos get called essential altho imo they are just a logical pre-cursor to Slipknot

there is also Proclamation (Blasphemy worship, but new album is a bit more unique), Diocletian, Damaar, Abominator to check out

Yes, all those bands I've posted have all had excellent, lengthy 1+ minute guitar solos that have made me stop what i was doing and just say "wow."

But help us out here, what are some bands that you can give an example towards what you are specifically looking for.

Not to sound like a fag, but I really dig old metal. I love RTL and MoP of Metallica, they're my favorite albums, I love Iron Maiden's first four albums with Number of the Beast as my favorite, and I love Ozzy in Sabbath with Iommi and by himself with Rhoads and Zakk. Then I'm also into old thrash bands, but mainly Megadeth, Slayer, Exodus, and Testament. The only newer metal I like is Opeth, Dream Theater (yeah I know not really new, but I mean they still have kickass new material), and then theirs a lot of bands I sorta like (Lamb of God, Dethklok, Warbringer...)

For some solos that made me go wow...

Metallica - for whom the bell tolls, master of puppets, ride the lightning, one (i hate saying that ever since guitar hero)
slayer - angel of death and raining blood
megadeth - pretty much like all of RIP, but mainly holy wars and hangar

To be honest, I'm more into jazz, but what can I say, metal gets the blood going in a way jazz can't. Just, as a jazz player and listener, I love emotion, complexity, style, personality, originality and I feel like I keep getting "standard", "half-assed", or "normal" solos.

Really I don't go too far to listen to bands, because a lot of underground bands hurt my ears. Their is always some that I do like though. Thanks for the lists and help guys, I'll be sure to check out all the bands. Well except for the first poster, because I listened to them before and always thought "meh"

edit: oh and in somes cases I may like the instruments can't tolerate the vocals. I do like metal vocals, but I'm picky.

There isn't even a proper solo in For Whom The Bell Tolls

but good for you liking jazz, check out Alex Skolnick Trio, he put metal into jazz

then you are close minded, becease the bands that are written down by people aren't really underground bands. If you don't want to open your mind, then don't open a thread which asks for guitar solo's.

I'm not close minded. I give everything a chance and listen to certain things repetively to like it eventually, but I like what I like and can't help that.

Necrophagist? Also, check out Cast Down the Heretic by Nile. That is probably the greatest LONG solo in dm of all time... I stop whatever I am doing EVERY time it begins to listen.

I didn't know these bands were considered 'War Metal'. I always called early Blasphemy black metal. As well as Bestial Warlust.

try blotted science if you're into jazzy and proggy stuff. they're all instrumental and play some really interesting things. If you like them, and necrophagist, you will probably also like Sleep Terror. in fact try stuff from my muxtape I put on a Metal Forum Radio a while back.

and when you say you can't tolerate the vocals, do you mean metal growls and gutteral vocals? if so, I'd keep trying to listen to bands that do it and do it well (my first real love of gutteral was behemoth's demigod, as well as morbid angel's covenant. Once you really can get into and love all gutteral and growling metal vocals, it completely opens up your world to way more metal than is possible without liking gutteral. Also check out bands like Arsis, Dark Tranquillity, Archons, Vale of Pnath, Odious Mortem, Decrepit Birth, Death (not around anymore but if you haven't heard them, you need to), Sadus, Sadist, Spawn of Possession, Suffocation, Psycroptic, Cynic, Atheist, Anata, Pestilence, Quo Vadis, Theory in Practice, Nile, Immolation, Ion Dissonance, Psypheria, Heathen, Martyr, Continuo Renacer, Forbidden, Death Angel, Carcass, Arch Enemy (I don't like full albums of AE but you gotta love some of Ammott's riffs and solos).

Yep, Blasphemy are considered the fathers of it. Revenge/Conqueror take War Metal to the extreme, so Blasphemy and Revenge falling under the same genre is kind of like say Metallica and some extreme thrash like Dark Angel or something if you get what I mean. I think of Bestial Warlust, Vengeance War Til Death at least, as a mid-point between Blasphemy and Conqueror
