yes it is original! I have one. The J pickup is the reason they call it the special. And another thing that is a tell tale sign of the special is pickup blend knob where the jack socket is normally located on a normal precision. The jack is located in the same spot as the jack on a telecaster guitar. And threadstarter, the precision special is in the standard series, and has a small 'standard series' logo on the head, so the seller may have just got confused.
