Okay, so recently I've been hating my SG because the pickups were very, well ****. They sucked so i planned on saving up for the Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Set (jb in the bridge, jazz in the neck). So i was looking at pickups on ebay and came across a pair called Dragonfire Chrome Screamers, for 30 bucks. So I check it out and there modeled off the jb/jazz set, so i figure i'll try em, i mean its only 30 bucks.

Well they got here 2 days ago and I put them in right away, Plugged in, and there was no buzz at all. You see with my epi pickups, they buzzed like hell on high gain, these, not at all. So i start playing on the bridge pickup some cleans, and there okay, a little dull but im not much of a cleans guy anyways. So i switch to my distortion channel, and boom, im pulling off crazy tones I couldnt get before with my ****ty epi pickups.

These things are awesome, I love em'. I can't belive they were only 30 bucks.

Heres a link to them.

So you can't just buy one? Ahhhh.........

Would ceramic pickups be bad for a solid state?

If I'm right, ceramic pick-ups will sound s***ty on cleans, but perfect for metal.

And I don't think that they could be bad for a SS.

I really wish I could say you're funny and cool, but that would be like saying Africa doesn't have a poverty problem.

Quebecmetal is right, poor cleans, good metal, but if you split the coils, amazing cleans

^ Oh, ok. Then I may get these to put into my custom build.

Are there coil-splitting guides here on UG? Or should I just google it?

another great alternative for cheap pickups is guitar fetish. I got a wired pickguard for about 50 and they sound great.

I dunno if there is a guide on coil splitting on the below site, but it does have prety much every pickup wiring option you could ever want:

I've heard that the high-output GFS pickups sound like ass, but anyone know what their '57 classic copies sound like? that's what I'm looking at for my Les Paul build

Hey, those are pretty helpful. Oh, and is it possible to get away by using a 5-way selector (from a stratlike guitar) and just soldering the wires on for 3 or will it not work?
