so i was looking for a new amp. upgrading from my spider 2. im almost positive this has a tube in it, but not a full tube amp, cuz its combo? but anyway, i like to play classic rock, im not going to be playing anywhere with this just want a better sounding amp. is this one good for classic rock or is it a piece of ****

its for my birthday, i want a new amp but i dont think my parents want to spend an insane amount on an amp. little bit over 200 i guess

to answer a few of questions its not really a tube amp i geuss u can call it half tube and no its not because its a combo there are many combo tube amps. anyway they do still have a good rep around here but i have never used one.

It's not even 'half tube' it only has one tube in it, real tube amps have several pre and power amp tubes.
The point of 'hybrids' are to get tube od, since most of your crunch comes from a driven preamp, but with only one tube, you dont really get that sound.

Just because it's a combo dosnt mean it cant be full tube.
But no, the Valvetronix is 'hybrid' which is one 12AX7 in the preamp. Its more of a marketing gimic than anything else. The Valvetronix series IS pretty nice, but it does NOT sound like a tube amp. If you're just playing at home and want that tube sound, but are on a budget, check out the 5w Blackhearts, they're cheap, full tube, and sounds good at bedroom levels.
