yes real men that know that tremolo means a variation in volume which is not what a vibrato bar does...

Tremolo is the term for people who don't actually know what it does.

Jeez, cant we just call it whatever comes natural? Whammy, Trem, Vibrato bar, Sissy stick...etc... Theres a baker's dozen names for any variation of the same thing. Personal Preference, id say.

blame leo fender.
He decided to call something that made a tremolo effect a vibrato unit and decided to call a device that does vibrato a tremolo unit.

Ever since then people have just gone along with it even though it's technically incorrect (or at least the one named tremolo is)

In theory, theyre the same thing, but Whammy bar is the right word for it. Tremelo means change in volume, not pitch. I still call it tremelo bar though, It just doesnt feel right saying whammy. I'd even use vibrato bar before whammy bar. Hell, even pitch fluctuation bar before whammy, whammy just sounds so guitar-hero-only-experience-i've-had-with-one-is-on-the-game.

I already know that "tremolo" is a change in volume and is an incorrect term, but I like the way it sounds. I actually always wondered why it was called a "tremolo."

For the grammatically incorrect, have any of you noticed in a guitar catalog or whatever, the use of different spellings of the two terms, "trem(e)lo" and "trem(o)lo"? e's and o's may have something to say
