I am using an Alesis 12channel firewire mixer/interface to record.
Program: Audacity.

Whenever I record, the qulaity just sound muffled and muddy.

If your using microphones, try adjusting the positioning. if you're recording an acoustic, try placing the mic about 10 inches from the 12th fret. If you're just pluggin in DI, you might just be clipping. Experiment with your EQ more maybe.

Be a bit more specific about what exactly you're doing. What are you recording? what Mics are you using? how are you setting the eq? what gain levels are you recording at? etc.

Watch the bass on acoustics. I always get really muddy low end if my gain is too high, or if my mic is too close. To be honest, I sit about 8-12inches with a dynamic.

Acoustic guitar, imo, is the easiest thing to record and get right, but it all just requires a bit of tweaking.

But again, lemme stress the EQ settings.

Try
Low 25
Mid 60-75
