Yah well today marks the official point that ive been playing guitar for a year.

Over the year i learned:

How to sing and play guitar
Some Theory

Songwise:

Through Struggle-As i Lay Dying
Seperation-As i Lay Dying
Unholy conffesions- A7X
Sweet Child o mine-guns n roses
call it karma-silverstien
swing life away-rise against
Heart of gold-neal dimond
Welcome home-Metalica

and other songs around that skill level.

Am i doing anything wrong?

And how can i improve. I wana take up Sweep picking, and taping, and learn some great solos.

Can anyone tell me where to start from this point?

Dude I've been playing for about five years, I just recently learned how to sing. I'd say you are way ahead in that area, and for playing for just one year I'd say you have a pretty good Repertoire...

There's no set speed in which people learn guitar. Everyone learns/plays differently. Just do things at your own pace.

well can you give me some links and stuff to help me with sweep picking, or taping, and which one should i do first?

I've been playing for at least 4 years and you're doing better than me.
Of course a lot of that was random ****ing around so yeah.
Satan isn't inside a guitar pick. He's in here. In our hearts. He's what makes us not want to go to work, or excercise or tell the truth. He's that little voice in your mind that says "Fuck you" to the people you hate.

Is the Welcome Home Sanitarium include solos?
But if its just all the rhythm thats still pretty good.
Learn tapping, extremely easy and sounds good, just remember the the T symbols is used, it means a quickhammer on /pull off. That had me confused for a while.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

you are doing great for just playing for a year. i have been playing for a bit over a year and you are just about as good as i am. If you want to learn tapping i would suggest looking on youtube for some videos that tell you how or if you have friends that can ask them. Once you get it down it is really easy. After that you should try learning the tapping part to Eruption, the crazy train solo, and the solo from One by Metallica.
As for songs it really depends on what you think you can do. If you put your mind to a song and really stick to it you have a good chance of learning it and nailing it.
Good luck man and keep it up.

If you can nail the solos to SCOM and the Metallica song, then you're very good for a year. If you can only play the rhythm parts, then you're still doing well.

Regardless, you're a lot better than I was after a year.

You're not tapping correctly, it's meant to be like a hammer on and pull off, or your guitar isn't good for tapping (I've found that my Yamaha is easier to get a clean slide tap out than my Jackson)
