Can anyone recommend any good books about scales and how to put them in good use ? I really want something to help me writing my songs.

I wouldnt recommend a scale book. I do recommend how ever studying theory a little bit more though and learning the formulas for building sclaes and practice them on the guitar cause that will help you a lot more that just simply memorizing scales.Your fretboard knowledge will increase 100% if you do this.

I'd highly suggest Matt Smith's Chop Shop. It's got scales, basic theory, chord construction, alternate tunings, double-stops, methods and modes. It's basicly theory 101, plus it comes with a CD full of backing tracks you can play along with. It helped me a lot when I was struggling with the basics of theory, and I still use it a lot as a scale and chord reference.
