Yo

What should I go for people: Engl Thunder or Screamer head/combo, a Peavey 6505 Combo or a Marshal JVM 205 2x12 combo ?

I am looking for a decent metal sound (Meshuggah. Architects, Sikth, etc), which sounds good recorded and live.

Cheerse for the help guys

i will hijack and say im in the same situation...

the thunder seems to be the closest/tightest as the marshal and peaveys sound very loose, but the videos available for the engl's dont have exactly what im looking for, and i cant find a dealer within a days drive...

ENGL Screamer.
Not just a great metal amp but does a hell of alot more too! Very very versatile.

Where are you? Cos they'll be pricey in the US. If you're buying from in the EU then check out www.thomann.de or have a look on ebay. Really good buys on ebay i got my head with the Z-4 footswitch (£140 worth of footswitch) for £485 .

Most people either love or hate the JVM... I DEFINITELY wouldn't buy it blind. I'd stay away from the 6505 combo if it wouldn't leave you enough cash left over for a speaker swap, the stock speaker's pretty awful. The ENGL's are pretty much amazing, especially the Screamer, and they come with V30's.

Basically, you need to try them all out if at all possible.

i'd say it depends on where you are... that'll affect value the most. those amps will all do what you want, more or less. the marshall is probably the least modern-sounding one, though.
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.
