You know when you look into a bright light and you're dazzled (go look at the sun RIGHT NOW if you've managed to avoid this ) and you get those swirly colours in your eyes that you get when you close your eyes, even.

2 questions:

1. What causes that? Is it like an imprint of light left on your eye?

2. (and most important) What do you call them? I've always called them eye rockets, but no one else does and I don't know what to search for on google to see what they're officially called, heh.

1. I think that's your retina's burning inside your eyes from the sun's heat/power

2. I call it sun blind, but I doubt that's the actual name for it.

Here you go, it's to do with cones and rods and such. I don't know if there's a proper name for them. http://ask.yahoo.com/20051130.html

' You may also be interested to know that those strange shapes you occasionally see floating across your field of vision are known as "floaters," and are actually tiny clumps of cells floating inside the vitreous, or the clear jelly that fills your eye.'

That is awesome. I love science. (when it's cool )

Yeah, I pay way more attention to what goes on in my eyes that most people it seems, no one knows what I'm on about normally when I talk about it. Like when it's really bright outside, and you come indoors and close your eyes and it's all bright green, but sort of black at the same time and you can never 'look' straight at it. I used to entertain myself as a child by looking at light bulbs and then closing my eyes and following the colourful patches around.

Did you know the odds of a Vault-Tec shelter failing are 1,763,497 to 1?

Yeah I did that too! (still do :/ ).

I think I might have made up the term 'Eye rockets' and not really heard it anywhere

Funny thing is, I discovered a lot about Phosphenes watching some random music video at silly oclock in the morning. It was a spider diagram, with all sorts of bits on information about them in it, and it moved around with the music. Never been able to find it again though!

Ever burnt an ant with a magnifying glass?

I thought it was your retina being burnt by the magnification of the lens.

And I'm pretty sure the medical term for it is eye-burn.
