I'm a big fan of his stuff. His self titled album (the red one, not his first limited release one) is one of my favorites of all time. Regarding him being better than Vai, people always bring that up. I like them both and feel their style is fairly different even though Satch taught Vai. Vai goes for much more complex harmony and really likes uber-production with a million little things going on at the same time while Satch always has a touch of the blues in his playing and is more straight up rock.
