in the highway star solo there are many licks that are like this.
E| ---------------------------------|
|| ------------------------13^------|
G|| --------------------10-----------|
D|| ----------------12---------------| and this

|| ----8---5------------------8^----|-----8---5-----------------8^---- ||
B|| --------------6------------------|---------------6----------------- ||
G|| -------------------7-------------|--------------------7------------ ||
D|| ---------------------------------|--------------------------------- ||
A|| ---------------------------------|--------------------------------- ||
E|| ---------------------------------|---------------------------------
A|| ---------------------------------|
E|| ---------------------------------|

I know ritchie blackmore was one of the first guitarists to sweep pick and I want to leaern this solo properly, does anybody know if he sweps when playing live or in the studio etc?

No, he picks each individual string. I've never heard of him sweeping. Link?

Someone told he sweeps live sometimes in some of his solos, I've never heard it myself though.
