Please post your top 3 favourite guitarists here, below are mine:

1) Tom Delonge, Favourite song is Whats My Age Again and i grew up listening to blink.
2) Tony Iommi, Use of power chords was amazing and i really like paranoid and others.
3) Randy Rhoads, Crazy train those two words some up his amazing riff writing abilities.

These can be your favourite guitarists for whatever reason not just technical ability.
I used the search feature and could not find anything the same as this so get posting!

No particular order:

John Petrucci (Just a God of guitar, master of just about every technique and can play as emotively and melodically or as fast as just about anyone)

Rusty Cooley (lately I have been intrigued by his speed, accuracy and interesting rhythm and solo work with OUTWORLD)

Yngwie Malmsteen (Rising Force is arguably the most important album in the introduction and integration of classical phrasing, technique and appreciation into rock and metal music)

If other people are adding one more i will add: Paul Gilbert, seen him live he loved his instrument and his music is very creative.

My favorite guitarists, though
Jimmy Page- Doubt he needs an explanation
John Frusciante- Wide range of guitar playing (funk to melodic rhythm to insane soloing), live improvisation, solos, the emotion he puts into his music, chord usage/minimalistic yet effective song writing (esp. during BTW, Cali)
Joe Satriani- Guitar genius...

Steve Vai: so awesome, a complete mercenary.
Slash: The style
Tracii Guns: So bluesy and yet still so punk

Tommy Emmanuel is my number one favourite. Head and shoulders above the rest.
Then it's a tie between Carlos Santana and John Petrucci.

Honourable mention to Jake Shimabukuro, a ukulele virtuoso.

1. Kevin Gruft

3. John Mayer

*Jeff Loomis
*Chris Broderick
*Michael Romeo
*Michael Angelo
*Joe Satriani (introduced me to the world of instrumental music)
*Steve Vai
*Paul Gilbert (introduced me to the idea of playing with a drill)
*Marty Friedman
*Jason Becker (my inspiration)
*Kiko Loureiro
*Carlos Santana (he's selling out big time today, but he has developed an amazing tone and brought fame to Mesa and PRS)

And of course, Jimi Hendrix
