So, has anyone else bought todays Kerrang! with the Iron Maiden covers CD? I just bought it and listened, and am surprised that Fightstar's cover is probably the best one on there by quite a bit. Some of them are just shockingly bad in all fairness. So yeah, what're your thoughts?

EDIT: oh, and Black Tide's is v. good too

Fightstar do awesome covers! Check out their cover of Leper Messiah on Kerrang!'s Master of Puppets cover album and their cover of Breaking The Law - Judas Priest.

I'm going to buy Kerrang! today and see if it is as good as their Remastered album.

Fightstar's cover is actually bloody great, but the vocals sound a bit flat on the held notes towards the middle.
Third out in the MOD contest '08.

Is this the one i heard about where Machine Head covered Hallowed be Thy Name?

EDIT: Yes it is. And they didnt even include Iced Earth. They cover Maiden brilliantly. Their Hallowed be thy name cover is the best cover i have ever heard. Their Transyvania cover is fantastic aswell.

Fightstars was amazing.
Metallicas was decent.
Madina Lakes was okay.

The rest were either bad or atrocious.

In my opinion anyway, I didn't like any of the other bands in the first place so.

Most of the songs weren't that good.

Fightstar's cover of the fear of the dark was bad. Whatever idiot decided that the main riff needs power chords at the beginning of each bar for the main riff is an idiot - it REALLY slowed down the riff, and sounded bad. Power chords only for verse and chorus please. Vocals were average. It is listenable though.

Machine Head and Trivium have good covers. Machine head are best - as always.

Run to the hills cover was unique, but failed with the verse, especially the "woman and children and cowards attack" line - that was painful, it didn't flow, it didn't feel like a good way to finish a verse.

Trooper - it was ok. I just hate the vocals.

Gallows were good, so was most others.

The brave new world cover, however, was GREAT! This and machine head are the best songs on this album. A unique interpretation that uses all the riffs and solos, so its not really different. A definite favourite.

Im very disappointed they didn't feature any truly good bands. I mean machine head is pretty damn good, but for an Iron Maiden cover? Rob has a terrible voice. And A7X? You've gotta be kidding me that guy cant sing to save his life.

Trivium's cover.

I likes it.

Any more songs anywhere?

Just buy it. If you can't be bothered to, it's your loss/problem.

Not too fond of the DevilDriver one. The singing just doesn't seem to match the lyrics. It's like

Lyrics: YAY!
Singing: I'LL EAT YOUR FACE

hahahaha

That's really quite funny

i've gotta hand it to fightstar. their cover is pretty good.

i didnt expect a guy who used to be in busted to actually do a good cover of maiden, but even the solo is pretty good. obviously, it isnt maiden, but its not bad.

his voice sounds so awkward though

while ill agree that the leper messiah and my own summer covers we're top notch

that attempt at breaking the law was almost as bad as atreyu's cover of you give love a bad name.
