without buying a new amp, i dont have them money (i have a peavey rage 258), how can i get awesome tone out of my ibanez grg170dx? compared to an rg series it sucks...compared to anything it sucks. so how can i get better tone, maybe new pickups?

i like:
classic rock/metal
zeppelin
gnr
sabbath
beatles
cream
metallica
iron maiden
pink floyd
judas priest
and so on

"metal" (alternative/numetal i guess)
soad
linkin park
atreyu
breaking benjamin
nirvana
buckcherry
sum 41
trapt
and so on (and some melodic death metal/prog)

how can i get good sound from both worlds?

You COULD get new pickups and possibly see a slight improvement in your tone. But if you're playing it through that amp, it's a waste of money.

Save up money for a new amp.

well until you can buy new gear you can always try tweaking the knobs on the guitar. sometimes i roll off the tone about 4 stages to warm up my tone a little, but it really depends on what guitar im using if i have to or not.

People need to realise that when you're just learning your tone means nothing. And when you have less than 300 dollars to spend, you're tone won't improve that much.

Pickups would not do much. Only slight changes and barely noticeable. Get a new amp to improve overall tone.
