What are the differences between these two Vox wahs? Are there any tone differenaces? All I'm aware of is the AC jack on the A.

Thanks.

exactly the same but the A has true bypass so its an obvious choice

Not that it's a hard mod or anything, but you're right.

^^ I'm pretty sure the A doesn't, it's a buffered bypass like the Crybabies.

And the A version has tiny little SMT components. It probably takes a bit of tone away, but I couldn't tell you first hand. It'll make it a bugger to mod, though, if you're into that.

...The A doesn't have true bypass? Mine has an SPDT bypass switch...

The differences are that the v847a has a DC jack and is all SMT so the only mod you can do is true bypass.

And apparently the V847 sounds a tiny bit better.

Get the V847 if you wanna spend a bit more money on modding it to be brilliant, or the v847a if you just want a wah.
The Laney Thread are big and clever. No exceptions.

I'm not into modding, so you think A is the way to go?

If I were t get just an 847, would it be unbearable if I didn't mod it?

Differences between the V847 and V847a:
Different pots
Different inductors - unsure if values remained the same.
Different caps - values remained the same
V847a is buffered
V847a uses SMD resistors as mentioned. Unsure if values changes, wouldn't suprise me though
The V847 was made in the USA, the V847a is made in China

There are definitely tone differences. The V847a is a little brighter in my opinion and the V847 has a slightly sweeter top end. The sweep characteristics are a different too due to them using different pots. The V847 wouldn't be unbearable at all, it's a fine wah stock, but just a few slight things can make it brilliant

^ I know you need a DPDT, that's why I said it has an SPDT switch. It's definitely buffered.

I have the V847 and can vouch highly for it. I modded mine with True Bypass. First it will take away a lot of your sweep and the tone will be fairly dull, but there's a mod called the vocal mod, to add more vocal range, do that and it's great!

All right, thanks guys....what say you as the better of the 2? Gieven the pros and cons?

If it makes a differance, I need like classic rock, blues, and alternative tones.

Yeah it's very easy. The switch is the hardest part, which still is very easy. The circuit board mods are dead simple!
