I have no effects pedals or anything, just my starter kit gear, which sucks. I'm wondering if I should get a Roland Microcube or buy a multi-effects pedal like a Digitech RP-150 or Zoom G1X which would be cheaper and could possibly give me a bigger variety of sounds with similar quality to what I'd get out of the Microcube alone, as well as allow me to retain higher wattage. I'd only be using this for practice and maybe jamming with a friend so I probably shouldn't be concerned with the volume.

That's another thing...my amp, the Yamaha GA-10 only has a clean and overdrive setting, so if I did get a pedal with distortion effects would I be able to use the distortion on my amp even though it only has overdrive?
