How are Carvin amps? I'm doing a lot of research so i can get a good, lasting tube amp, and these things are pretty moderately priced. I'm not talking about the stacks, i'm talking about these:

Schecter Gryphon; Ibanez AEG20E
Peavey Rage 158 ; TRAYNOR YCS50
EHX Big Muff Pi; Dunlop CryBaby GCB-95 (modded); MXR M-108 10-band; DigiTech JamMan Looper

depends on what sound you want. that vintage 16 would be a perfect amp for blues/classic rock. the bel air and nomad are just like that, but with more headroom/volume. none of those amps will give you teh bR00talz, maybe with a pedal in front....maybe

Lol, I'm not lookin' for teh bR00talz cuz i can gets them with my spyd3r. Kidding. I highly dislike my spider.

I play Rock, a lot of classic rock (but it seems like i play a lot of modern too, although i rarely listen to modern rock), love to practice blues soloing, and the heaviest stuff i play is some Rage.

then those amps are perfect! now the decision is really just volume and the speaker configuration. really the nomad and bel air will have pretty much the same sounds, but i think the 2x12 will add that extra dimension that 2 speakers give

OK, good to know. Unfortunately, i don't really have a job, cause of school and cause i'm away for most of the summer, and i can't really make steady cash. I'm pretty much broke. does the BelAir have any extra controls (i.e. reverb)? Speaking of which, what are the controls on the Nomad? they aren't mentioned.

there is reverb on both channels, then i believe just standard treble, middle, bass. most likely a drive knob as well

My friend's parents have a Alice Cooper tribute band in their basement, and have some badass stuff down there. Just so happens that they have let me jam several times on the Carvin 2x12 50W amp on that website... through their 20 year old Gibson Les Paul. I've also played an EMG- laden strat with .12 strings through that amp (worst guitar i've played in my life so I'm not even going to say how that sounded through the carvin)

I was very impressed by that amp. I was getting some nice distortion out of it without going to concert levels... the gain must be a great feature. With the gain up I was getting a fuzzface / Hendrixy vibe. The cleaner tones were distinct and bright. Very good amp, I reccomend it.

Holy ****, its under $650?? Fantastic for the money! Buy it! =)

yes, all of carvin's products are A+++ without the price of "name brand" products. sadly, most people don't want carvin/know about it

Yes, but unfortunately GC doesn't carry em and none of my locals do either. All their stores are in california, and i live on the east coast.
Luckily, im going to San Diego in a month, and that's where the Carvin Factory is!!!

Also try a peavey classic series. Or my new bargain fav Crate V series. If you wait both are used for about $300. Both have stunning tooby bluesey tone and easier to get your hands on than a carvin. I had a carvin x100 amp and hated it. I suffered for years with it. I suspect Id like the new carvin vintage series but I live in san diego and still haven't ran across one convenient enough to try.

I lived in San Diego and i tried to find the "Carvin Factory" but had no luck

You would think, that they would have some sort of showcase room where you can buy direct.. like the Gibson store in TN.
