threadstarter is rather blunt to say the least

so we've gathered you want to spend 500 dollars on amp for bedroom practise with the versatility to play a small venue, i would say maybe a peavey or a roland cube 60(way under budget but is a very good amp)

how much are you willing to spend on pedals?

For Slipknotesque tones I would check out the Marshall MG 100DFX.

Actually Mick and James of Slipknot were using the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi for a while there - don't know if they still are or not...

But check out the Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff - great distortion pedal for metal and heavy stuff like what you are wanting to play!
