Go to any music shop that sells basses and look at the Fenders. They're awesome, aren't they? (do NOT disagree at this point ) But, wait! They're the same clones as all of the ones you've seen previously - white scratchplate, rosewood fretboard, the occasional string cover.

My question is where can you find an original-looking Fender; one with maybe a black pickguard; one with a colour other than sunburst (however nice it appears); one with a plain maple fretboard?

Go to the store, tell them you want the bass, but with a maple neck. They should order it in for you.

Or, go to musicians friend and buy one.

EDIT: Well they aren't Fenders, but they are quite similar looking and I've heard good things about them.

I think you need to stop caring what people think about it. I stayed home all day today and masturbated like 5 times. Fucking blast.

They ARE pretty fit and are more reminiscent of MMs, but nonetheless they're quite a good make, aren't they? And £1000+

Ebay seems like a good place (provided that you wade through the endless list of *Deliberatley* FENDER squiers)

I figure that the best way, as outlined by Cpt Jackass, is to mod myself.

1. A black pickguard is optional on any MIA basses when requested (this is how I got mine)

2. Fender offers a wide range of colours across their bass range

3. Maple as a fretboard wood is also optional on almost all MIA Fender basses

Thanks, and did you order through a guitar store?
I'd be going for black-on-white with maple fretboard p-bass. Tasty as hell.

Yeah, I'm in the UK and ordered through GAK.

Very nice look, great choice.

Or you can look at G&L.

They're owned by Fender, and quite similar. I think.

In my experience, Fender are one of the only mainstream manufacturers to offer maple fretboards.
And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man delights not me: no, nor woman neither... nor women neither.

I'd prefer black-on-black, but i would enjoy the maple fretboard... i smell a bass mod in the works...

Shit, I'm so pathetic.
