in my quest for the perfect amp i have been recommended the Splawn Quickrod on countless occasions and i will either choose that or an orange rockerverb 50

basically i play alot of red hot chili peppers and jimi hendrix. these are the 2 main tones i want to achieve on my amp. both of the guitarist used marshalls and both the amps i chose are similar to marshalls

my band covers some led zeppelin, skynyrd, gnr, boston, stones, nirvana, acdc and other rock songs. but primarily classic rock and bluesy stuff

i have heard the splawn and i think its great but i think its a little bit too metal based, but that could be due to the fact that i only hear ppl playing metal on them

the orange seems ideal but i like the gear features on the splawn

which amp out of the 2 do you think i should get?

Amp Quest...

Sounds like a lame RPG lol

But I have never heard of Splawn... I guess I live in a cave or something lol.

I know that Orange amps kick ass though - they have nice, clear cleans and great overdrives.

Since I don't know anything about Splawn amps I would have to recommend the Orange by default but from the way you described them you wouldn't go wrong with either amp!

depends where you are, but if in the states, the Splawns are a MUCH better value IMO. Not only cheaper, but built about 1000x better from the gutshots I've seen. The Quickrod can get into metal territory, but I wouldn't call it a metal amp. To get it into metal gain range, people usually have the gain at 3:00+. It can do metal, but that's not it's forte IMO. Hot rodded Marshall tones are it's bread and butter. If you think it's still too gainy, they also make a Superstock which is voiced more around classic tones. Not only are they considerably less in the states, but they have a lifetime warranty, and are hand built with killer parts. Chassis mounted sockets/jacks/pots/switches, Heyboer transformers, quality resistors and caps, thick boards, etc... None of the current production models from Orange can touch the build quality. The Splawns sound fantastic to boot man.
