It looks quite similar to Ovangkol (due to the variance in colour), but it could be rosewood, as you said.

ok, thanks. Not really bothered what it is, it looks nice and has a really nice bell like clang to it when you tap it. Just would be helpful for when someone wants it using on a guitar to tell em what it is.

Weah, I though It might be cocobolo but im not sure, Its not massivley oily, no. Its got quite an open grain though.

Looks like pau ferro (which is a type of rosewood) to me. If it is then you should wear a resparator when you work with it because most people are very allergic to it.

It came to me at work today, it's simular to a wood i've seen before called bocot. I googled it and found this pic-

I think its pretty simular.

You could measure the wood density. Then compare it to some figures to see where it falls.

i have a piece of wood in my collection that looks exactly like that bolivian rosewood.

it's not pao ferro... pao ferro has a cappuccino color to it.

it looks like cocobolo to me...

looking at that picture a little closer im gonna have to say its not bolivian, although it looked like it at first the grain is a little different. i'm gonna have to say east indian rosewood.

Cut a small slice off of the side and if it smells like catpiss, it's rosewood
