I've had an Epi Les Paul for quite a long time, its been out of commission for a long time also( no pickups, etc), I want to overhaul it and make it scream...

However I had a guy from some mom and pop guitar store tell me the truss rod is broken, I think he just wanted to get money out of me but I wanna be sure, is there any way I can check myself if it is broken?

I'm an electronics guy so I know nothing about guitar necks.

any help is much appreciated!!
i play drums and guitar :

umm the only thing i can think of is, shake the neck and listen to see if anything moves if not take it to another store and ask them

Either bring it somewhere else, or give it a half-turn, you should be able to tell by the tension.
