you're mixing a couple things. Open C is a tuning, C Major is a key.

System is drop C not open C

no, you're right. it's called open C major. The tuning is tuned to a C major chord. You can call it just open C but there also is an open C minor. but you got it right, open C or C major. and songwise, i have no clue.

A couple of songs by John Butler Trio are in that tuning, Ocean (check out the live version on youtube, tis immense!!) and Zebra is as well i think.

Not always.

For instance, Love is on a 6. Just comb through the SYL/DTB discographies.

You can play nearly all Dev stuff on a 6 as well even if it was written on a 7, it honestly won't sound that far off. Most of his solo work it on a 6 string anyway.
