Sup Pit. I couldn't really find a place to put this question, and since the Pit seems like a place for anything besides guitar related things (even though this is still kind of guitar related... )

Anyways, I was thinking of saving up for a new guitar. My current one, a Gibson LP Faded Special, does the job well enough, but is just average for the music I play (mostly neo-classical metal and progressive metal). I put some DiMarzio pups in which changed the sound of it very nicely, and my amp is quite good (a Peavey 5150 combo). The only thing I am not particularly fond of is the neck, which I wish was thinner.

But lately, I have had more time to game, which used to be my predominate hobby before I became obsessed with guitar and music in general. Most of my friends have 360s and I have heard the online experience is unmatched. I spotted many games I would like at the local Target yesterday, and was thinking of buying one instead of my new guitar.

I rationalized this by thinking that my guitar was good enough, I had just put some new buckers in and like my tone quite a bit. I can still play fine on the 60's style neck (I think it's a 60's style; I haven't really played a 50's but my neck isn't extremely thick as I have read 50's are), too. The Xbox would also be cheaper than the guitar I had in mind (a Jackson Dinky, most likely). So... what do you think I should do?

You will get bored a lot faster with a 360 then a guitar...plus, a guitar can help you become something in the future, a 360 has less of a chance of making you a rockstar.

Also...ITS A NEW GUITAR MAN!!!!

I would always say a new guitar, as I was in this position last summer. However, I ended up having less money than I thought and I couldn't afford the guitar I wanted, so I bought a 360 to tide me over until I could afford a new guitar. I didn't just want to buy a cheaper one, as I would've been in the exact same boat as I was currently in.

If you can afford the guitar you want, get that, man.

get the xbox

360 is gonna cost you more over time, games cost more than strings.
even the repair work will probably run you more on the 360.

it depends how badly you want the guitar
but i would definately get a 360 is i was you, sooner or later it's the way to go, Xbox Live is the greatest thing since the internet itself
and on the guitar side of things, if you do get a guitar instead, definately go for the dinky, i love mine
Gear:
Jackson DKMG Dinky (EMG 81/85)
Ibanez GIO (i put a Dimbucker in the bridge)
Crate GT65 (65 watts) to be upgraded soon, suggestions welcome (must be tubed)

Sell the Gibby, get a 360. And buy the Jackson. You'll have an awesome guitar, no Gibson, and an Xbox 360.

WIN!

Well, it sounds like you already have a pretty nice guitar, and you wouldn't really need a new one. I would get the 360. A poll would have been good. Since this is a guitar community, I bet more people will say guitar and vice-versa for a gaming community.

Being an avid guitarist/gamer myself, I would say 360. Do I have a reason to justify this? Hell no.

Don't get the xbox unless your going to get live. The xbox is probally going to cost more considering the games youd want to buy. A good alternative is buying some computer games instead of buying the console and the games. Im in the same situation..

I was going ask this very question next March. It's when the income tax comes in but I would say get the guitar. The better 360 games are going to come out in a few months so that's plenty of time to save up for a one.

XBOX!!
new games are made everyday
online
you can play with your friends!

you already got a guitar, why not buy something new instead?
you can play guitar for hours and then play xbox instead of just playing guitar.

dont listen to the people that say
"xbox wont get you anywhere, guitar will get you big"
play to have fun, its your money but i still say xbox is the best choics
I see you're not using the UG black theme

i'd get the 360 just for gears of war, you already have a kinda nice guitar

I recently had to make a similar decision. I was gonna get a gaming laptop for ~$950, but I decided to get a guitar instead. I made up my mind when I realized that my guitar I have right now (some cheap-ish Epiphone Les Paul) is slowly dying on me, and I can't live without my guitar. It sounds like your guitar is in better condition than mine, though, so the real question is: How much do you like to game? Do you enjoy playing games more than playing guitar? If yes, then you know the answer. It sounds like you've pretty much decided already, though.

EDIT: Plus, I already have a 360, and I love it.

Xbox live is epic. It's a shame I'm stuck with dial-up, in most areas they give you a 1 month trial when you buy the xbox 360(pro or elite pack). It's fun just playin GTA 4 or HALo 3 or cod4 on the live system, and if you get bored invite friends over to play - socialise man.

this guy knows what his is talking about. the dk2 is an amazing guitar that is underpriced so take advantage of it. but i do love xbox and the live feature is awesome so really it comes down to whether you like video games or guitar more

MS does 360 repairs for free...
A guitar will cost a lot more over time.
Strings, picks, amp, cables, a new guitar after a long time, a new amp someday, then probably more strings and ****.

360: console, controllers, bad ass power usage (a 360 set to standby for a whole year uses about 500€ worth of electricity), games and you will turn into a fanboy and buy the next Xbox.
#35
Guitar.

Videogames can be fun in small doses, but you don't need to buy a Console for one, when you can easily DL them from the internet.
#39
i had the same decision at christmas, my first guitar or a 360....

guess what i chose. :p
