What would be the best tube amp for under $450. I don't play anything heavier than Metallica, and I would prefer it to have good cleans.

Traynor YCV-50 Blue. You can buy a new one for $475 bidding the guy on eBay that sells new ones. Take a look at their website:

http://www.traynoramps.com/

Amazingly their prices have not gone up much and yet the Canadian Dollar has slaughtered the US Dollar over the past 2 years. Good value.

If you can afford one, yes. I can dial in some pretty heavy tones with mine. Theres also a randal 40 or 50 watt tube combo that I can't remember the name of.

Although the crate V seiries works just fine for that, I'm still gonna have to say Classic 30.

Heres a question about the Classic 30....
Can it get a metalish distortion like the devil wears prada?

with a name like classic i doubt it, which is why i support the bugera/valveking/randall rg50tc idea

rg50tc being the one that guy a few post above couldnt think of, im guessing

If you haven't actually played through a Classic 30, you probably aren't the best candidate for posting an answer to his question. Just a thought.

Keep in mind, too, that most of the amps recommended so far can be found in most music stores.... be sure to go there (with your guitar and pedals) and spend A LOT of time playing with them before buying.

Your crappy amp achieved a purposely crappy tone? I'll alert the presses.

Thats not a tube amp.
I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.

Or you could just use the same guitar as yours that they have at the store, and hook up some of the stores pedals. Saves you taking all your shit to the store.
