Alright, so I'm looking for a second guitar (instead of a new amp) that will essentially replace my Ibanez RG. I play mostly rock and blues and related stuff like The Foo Fighters, Rise Against, RHCP, Eric Clapton. I also take jazz band in school, so I want something that can get a good mellow tone too.

The guitars I've been thinking about so far are:
- Fender Lite Ash Strat or Tele
- Ibanez AS93
- Washburn HB35
- Epiphone Explorer

I think the Explorer is more suited to harder rock, but I think a pickup change will make it more versatile. I like the idea of having a semi-hollow like the Ibanez or Washburn, but I also would like to try single coils like the Strat or Tele. I'm open to any other suggestions, but I might not necessarily get one of the guitars I'm thinking about now.

EDIT: I don't want to spend more than $700 CDN

Semi-Hollow all the way dude. Perfect for jazz..and the humbuckers should do rise against pretty well. Rise Against used to use 1980's Gibson Sg's (that had low output humbuckers) so just crank the gain and you'll be fine.
Gear:
1980 Gibson SG Standard Cherry Red
Ibanez TM-71 Talman Artcore Semi-Hollow
2003 Tom Delonge Fender Strat Seafoam Green

get the explorer and use the bridge pickup to get a heavy sound for rock, and change the neck pickup to a pickup with a mellow tone to play jazz and stuff with

Get a gibson trinni-lopez grohl uses one or even grohls signature model and it will be versatile enough to be able to play other stuff.

Hah, dude that's way out of my league. I forgot to put the budget in the first post Will do that now.

EDIT: V I know But I plan to get a job this summer and get a small tube combo.

Believe me, you need an amp much more than you need a guitar.

Your guitar is ok, your amp is appalling.

+1.

But if you were set on getting a guitar, I'd get either a Strat or Explorer. Sounds like versatility is important.
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
Gibson Faded V
Warmoth Strat copy
Epiphone Hummingbird (FS!!)
Ibanez SR400QM
Fender BXR100
Reggae Bass Covers mahn!!!

Shall I say it, okay I shall. A Les Paul. They were originally jazz guitars, so just swap the neck pickup for a P90 and maybe swap out the bridge for something suited for hard rock.

You'll have something then.

Does anyone have any experience with the semi-hollows? I tried the Ibanez AS73, but didn't really spend that much time with it at the shop.

*BUMP*

Now I'm also thinking about the ESP-LTD EC-400VF. I think now it's down to this guitar or one of the semi-hollows.
